A movie about regular folks chasing storms might come off as a bit outlandish but hey, it’s that kind of action-packed madness that gets us trooping to the cinemas.
We’ve got a pair of storm chasers who risk everything to test some experimental weather alert system. Twisters is a standalone sequel to the first release in 1996 and is reportedly going to be 90% completely different from its original and 10% alike.
Eight years after her first appearance on the screens of Hollywood, the star of the comedy thriller Fresh, Daisy Edgar Jones is set to take on a groundbreaking role in the new movie, Twisters. Jones as Kate Coopey plays a fearful storm tracker who prefers to study meteorology safely from her computer. However, She is cajoled into chasing tornados by her teammate and gets caught up in the spiral she always feared.
In the original film, Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton portrayed Jo and Bill, a couple of storm chasers that were facing marital troubles. Despite their issues, they come together to track tornadoes across Oklahoma, using a research device (nicknamed Dorothy) that they developed to study these chaotic storms.

Twisters Cast

Loved for his charm which permeates through the screen every goddamn time, Glen Powell always brings a certain flair that’s very hard to ignore. You’d probably remember him from Top Gun, Anyone but You, Scream Queens and plenty more. We get to see more of that action in Twisters.
This time around, he’ll be playing Tyler Owens who is for all intents and purposes, a dick! Portrayed as some sort of cowboy when it comes to tornadoes, it surely brings back some of Cary Elwes’ character from the ’96 original. He’s quick-witted, arrogant and quite full of himself, much like Jonas Miller.
After making quite the impression as Marianne in Normal People and Kya Clark in Where the Crawdads Sing, Daisy Edgar Jones is back to wow us again in Twisters. Portraying Kate Cooper, Jones’ character is driven to study meteorology due to an encounter with a life changing tornado in college. She is depicted as somewhat of a storm whisperer, except she’s whispering, “Please don’t come near me!”
Now, Anthony Ramos, you might recognise him from Transformers and Dumb Money. In Twisters, he is Javi, the brains behind the tracking device that is set to change the world. He teams up with Kate and Tyler to test the tracking device he built, but when you’re messing with Mother Nature, things don’t always go according to plan.
Joining the star cast are familiar faces like Kiernan Shipka known for her chilling adventures, David Corenswet (upcoming Superman: Legacy), Sasha Lane (American Honey), Golden Globe winner Maura Tierney (Beautiful Boy), Brandon Perea (Nope), Nik Dodani (Atypical), and Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders).
Twisters Glen Powell

Glen Powell has been talking up Twisters, promising fans that it’s going to be a real thrill. He’s been real clear that it’s not exactly a sequel to the ’96 version, but he’s sure it’s got that same special something that we all remember. Teaming up with Daisy Edgar Jones and Anthony Ramos at CinemaCon, Powell made quite the splash and got folks talking about the movies’ big debut.
Twisters Lee Isaac Chung

Mark L. Smith, the brilliant mind behind The Revenant, wrote the screenplay for Twisters. Meanwhile, oscar-nominated director of Minari, Lee Isaac Chung is set to direct what is expected to be quite the ride. For this one, Chung collaborated with industry heavyweights like Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, who have worked on big-name franchises like Jurassic, Bourne, and Indiana Jones series. Also, Universal Pictures, known for the Fast & Furious franchise, will bring Joseph Kosinski’s thrilling plot to life alongside Warner Bros.
Twisters Plot

Kate Cooper is a former storm chaser who is haunted by a past encounter with tornadoes. She picks an interest in studying storm patterns from the safety of New York City.
But then her friend Javi lures her back into the field to test a revolutionary tracking system. Before long, Kate encounters Tyler Owens, a charismatic risk-taker who revels in sharing his storm-chasing escapades online. Diving headfirst into the heart of the storm, they navigate the tempest, where everyone must fight tooth and nail against nature’s fury.
Twisters Trailer
Dropped during the 2024 Super Bowl, the trailer for Twisters opens with a bunch of people, including Kate, stuck in a vehicle with a tornado raging all around them. And then, out of nowhere, a tree crashes into their vehicle, sending debris flying in all directions. Now, with danger closing in, they scramble to escape the chaos. From this scene, we can tell that this harrowing encounter is what likely triggered Kate’s fear of tornadoes.
After that intense moment, the trailer takes us through a bunch of scenes, including this crazy montage of storm chasers going all out, chasing tornadoes like their lives depend on it. And the tension just keeps building, leaving us wondering if anyone’s gonna make it out alive.
