Trailblazing American film director, producer, and screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan is directing the movie Trap. Most of his movies typically consist of a supernatural plot and twisted endings; Trap is hopefully no exception.

Celebrated with two BAFTA Awards and a Golden Globe, Shyamalan also produced the movie alongside Marc Bienstock & Ashwin Rajan. Other blockbuster movies of his include Praying with Anger, which was his debut, Glass released in 2019, and Knock at the Cabin in 2023. Altogether, he has received 34 nominations and 13 wins, showcasing his expertise in his craft.

Being the father of three daughters, Shyamalan wants his children to be proud of him but feels insecure when his mistakes emerge in front of them. Thus, placing his insecurities at the core of the movie, he created the roles of the serial killer and daughter to portray how a father works his heart out to provide and take care of his children. However, he never wants his children to be aware of his lapses.

Trap Stephen King

The concept of the authorities trying to trap and capture a serial killer at a pop concert with a primarily teenage girl audience brings to mind the ending of Stephen King’s 2014 novel Mr. Mercedes.

The book is based on the life of retired detective Bill Hodges as he receives taunting messages from a serial killer, whom he had failed to capture and identify a few years before. Mr. Mercedes’ final act saw the killer, Brady Hartsfield, planning an attack to bring a bomb into a pop star’s concert, resulting in him blowing himself up and causing numerous casualties.
